Two medical treatments are available to help in the prevention of HIV infection:

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

PrEP is approved for sexually active adults who are at ongoing high risk of HIV infection. It consists of a daily pill called Truvada, along with other safe sex practices.

Post-Exposure prophylaxis (PEP)

PEP consists of using medications after a single high-risk event (such as unprotected sex with an HIV-positive partner) to prevent HIV from replicating and spreading throughout the body of the exposed person.

If you would like to consider treatment, please schedule a visit with a Student Health clinician to discuss.  Please note that these therapies require multiple visits, lab tests, and counseling. We can submit charges to your insurance but you’ll want to look into your coverage before your visit.
