Bat bites can be very small. If you’ve been in contact with a bat, even if you aren’t sure you’ve been bitten or scratched, talk to a health care provider about your risk and whether you need to be vaccinated.

What animals can give me rabies? The wild animals that most commonly carry rabies in the United States are raccoons, skunks, bats, and foxes. Cats and dogs that are not vaccinated can also get rabies. Contact with infected bats is the leading cause of human rabies deaths in this country; at least 7 out of 10 Americans who die from rabies in the US were infected by bats.
