Pay attention to how you feel

A sore throat, cough, congestion, headache, upset stomach, or fever can quickly throw off your routine. When symptoms begin, prioritize rest, stay hydrated, and pay attention to whether you are improving or getting worse.

For mild illnesses, getting extra sleep, drinking plenty of fluids, eating a healthy diet, and using appropriate over-the-counter medications may help you feel better during recovery.

Take care of yourself and those around you

When classes, work, and other commitments are competing for your attention, it can be tempting to push through an illness. Giving your body time to rest is an important part of recovery.

You can also help protect those around you by washing your hands regularly, covering coughs and sneezes, avoiding sharing drinks or utensils, and staying home when you are not feeling well enough to participate in your usual activities.

Know when to seek care

If your symptoms are getting worse, are not improving, or are interfering with your daily activities, it may be time to make an appointment. Student Health providers can evaluate and treat many common concerns, including respiratory illnesses, sore throats, digestive issues, urinary symptoms, skin concerns, minor injuries, and more.

Not sure whether you need to be seen? Student Health can help you determine the right next step.
